| Tamara de Lempicka (was born Maria Gorska, May 16, 1898, Warsaw, Poland - Died March 18, 1980 Cuernavaca, Mexico). Of all the artists pursuing the style "Arts Decoratifs", one of the most memorable was Tamara De Lempicka. This glamorous Polish-born artist was at the forefront of Paris' Art Deco movement (a classical, symmetrical, rectilinear style that reached its high point between 1925-1935), painting haunting, coolly colored portraits of the rich and famous cafe society. She is best known for her Art Deco-styled portraits of sexy, bedroom-eyed women in stylish dress and haunting poses. Few accomplished artists embody the content of their work to the same extent as Tamara de Lempicka.
